    Chanticleer

Chanticleer has a remarkable reputation for its interpretation of vocal literature, from renaissance to vocal jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music. With its seamless blend of male voices, Chanticleer earned its reputation as "an orchestra of voices." Chanticleer, which takes its name from the "clear-singing" rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, was founded in 1978 by Louis Botto, who sang with them until 1989 and served as Artistic Director until his untimely death in early 1997. Singer, conductor and arranger Joseph Jennings joined Chanticleer in 1983 and soon became the group's music director. Today, the ensemble sings more than 100 performances annually throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
In 1994, Chanticleer was awarded the ASCAP-Chorus America Award for adventurous programming of contemporary music, as well as the National Citation from the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of musicians. In 2000, Chanticleer won a Grammy for the "Colors of Love" album.
