Manhattan Transfer
The influence of The Manhattan Transfer on contemporary a cappella has been enormous since their debut in 1973. Over the years, the group has explored a wide range of styles, and while their repertoire always seems short in the a cappella department, it includes some unaccompanied gems. In 1975, the Transfer released its debut eponymous album on Atlantic Records. In 1980 the group released "Extensions" and really caught on in the U.S., bringing them their first Grammy. After more releases and more awards, their 1985 release "Vocalese" garnered 12 Grammy nominations, second only to Michael Jackson's Thriller.
