The Four Freshmen (Old and New)
Four Butler University freshmen embarked on a musical career in September 1948. They never did become seniors. The Four Freshmen were discovered by Stan Kenton, who talked Capitol Records into signing them. The group's first hit record, "It's a Blue World," took the United States by storm in 1952. The group went on to record many more albums and appear in films. Most music awards and publications of the time recognized the Freshmen as one of the best vocal groups of their generation. All four were strong vocalists and strong instrumentalists as well. Today, more than 50 years later, a new generation of Four Freshmen continues the tradition.
