Robert Shaw Chorale
Robert Shaw was one of the most influential men in American choral music, his career having spanned six decades. He was the impetus behind the Robert Shaw Festival Singers, the Robert Shaw Institute, the Robert Chorale and Orchestra (for 17 years one of America's premiere touring choral groups), and more.
His awards include a gold record for the first RCA classical recording to sell more than a million copies, 13 Grammys, England's Gramophone, honorary degrees from 40 U.S. post-secondary educational institutions, four ASCAP awards for service to contemporary music, and the first Guggenheim Fellowship ever awarded to a conductor. He was a 1991 recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors, the highest American honor to performing artists. Under his leadership, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus was recognized with six Grammy awards for Best Choral performance.
