The Western Wind can sing almost anything, and with this, a retrospective of the ensemble's first 20 years, they prove it. The album opens with them singing their namesake, "O Western Wind." They proceed to a section of four Medieval pieces, including "Flos Regalism" from 13th Century England. Then they jump forward a few centuries, with four pieces from the Renaissance, including Morley's passionate "Miraculous Love's Wounding". Under Contemporary, they remind the listener of their role in the soundtrack of the film "Koyaanisqatsi" with the haunting, wordless "Vessels." The ensemble dabbles in spirituals, and rounds out the album with a section of pop, folk and jazz that ranges from "Wimoweh" (The Lion Sleeps Tonight) to "Sh'Boom, Life Could Be A Dream" and their smooth take on Thelonius Monk's "'Round Midnight." As the name says, a few tracks have some accompaniment. (54:07 1994)
