Melodious Accord is a 16- member professional chorus, a piece of the Melodious Accord,Inc. organization, founded by Alice Parker, that furthers education about, and appreciation of, the forms of folk music which have long been Ms. Parker's love. The 21 pieces on this CD are part of the body of music from the rich black tradition in the United States. The chorus produces an authentic sound that engages the listener and conveys the spirit of the songs' roots. Ms. Parker's selections are available here as a result of her devoted historical research and include the well-loved "He's Got the Whole World," as well as Parker's own suite, "Dem Bells," which combines handbells with Afro-American ethnic melodies. You will learn a great deal listening to this CD, but more important, you will enjoy a unique experience. (60:50 2004)
