"This well-known folk tune is set in an a cappella 4-part setting. I varied the tune just a little to give it a slightly more antique feel. The melody is shared by all voices through the various verses with lush harmonization. There are darker undercurrents when called for by the text (the darkness), as well as some tone painting when the men sing about the tempest all around. After a key change, the third verse vacillates between the relative minor and the original major key. After the change to the major key, the triumphant final verse (since love is lord of heaven and earth) leads to a quiet, confident ending. The title is no longer a question." - Dean Rishel
