Yay! Another CD from Australian women's quintet Coco's Lunch. Accompanied only by light percussion, "A Whole New Way of Getting Dressed" is a great effort covering world, R&B, pop and a little bit of a few other genres, all mixed together for a tapestry that crosses definitions and borders. The mesmerizing "Thulele Mama Ya" (inspired by the Zulu phrase "don't cry mama") will find you swaying to the stereo, and "Nature's Vanishing Points" sounds like a cross between Sade and Zap Mama. "Shifting Time," inspired by a member's study of konakkol (the vocal percussion from the Carnatic tradition of Southern India), has an unusual yet hypnotic sound. There are a few appearances by shakers, percussion and a flute, but the instrumentation is unobtrusive. It's been suspected for a while that Coco's Lunch was incapable of putting out a bad album, and this one does nothing to contradict that suspicion. (44:22 2002)
