This setting of Christina Rossetti's poignant poem, Autumn Violets, uses a simple homophonic style without bar lines, reminiscent of Chatman's Remember. The opening line, "Keep love for youth, and violets for the spring," symbolic of the poem's message, clearly inspires the musical gem of the song. This unifying line is reiterated by Rossetti, inserted again by Chatman, and repeated at the end.
