Both the personality and the work of Georg Philipp Telemann have been almost entirely neglected by the musical world until very recent times. He was accused of being "superficial", of "composing too much". The modern musicologist has learned to distrust hasty judgments. A great part of his output has not yet appeared in a modern edition; the fact that Telemann was one of the most productive composers of all times is no longer considered as being a mark of mere "facility". Thus, even if there are certain stereotype musical elements to be found in the three Christmas Cantatas on this recording, the distinctiveness of the three works and the richness of the proportions of his religious music are nonetheless remarkable.
