With the opening track by Samrat Chakrabarti, Similar Jones throws their hat into the contemporary a cappella ring - and quite nicely at that. "So It Seems" is Generation X radio-friendly pop, with a great hook, featuring guest appearances by Frank Farach and Chakrabarti himself on the title track. The seven-song CD Includes covers by Red Hot Chili Peppers ("Soul to Squeeze"), Stevie Wonder (trippy-groovy "I Believe"), Jellyfish ("Glutton of Sympathy") and a cover of "Evil Ways" adapted from a Sean Altman version of the '70s classic. The group takes on pretty ambitious arrangements, and hits the mark most of the time. A few negligible shaky tuning moments, but otherwise a very respectable debut. (27:02 2002)
