King's Singers, with Charivari Agréable: Pachelbel Vespers (CD)
Be the first to review this product
This recording includes instrumental accompaniment on all tracks. Charivari Agréable (tranlated "pleasant tumult") is an award-winning and very popular Early Music group directed by Kah-Ming Ng, who also plays harpsichord and chamber organ on this recording. Other instruments heard are violin, viola, viloa da gamba, bassoon, violone, and theorbo.
From the liner notes:
"The music contained in this CD represents a selection of Vespers movements written by the organist Johann Pachelbel."
" ... Pachelbel's contemporaries and students were in accord about one thing: ' he was a perfect and rare virtuoso '..."
" [his Vespers] are and eloquent embodiment of exceptional vocal writing and a fitting fin de siècle summation of all that is endearing about seventeenth-century music. After three centuries of quiescence, Pachelbel's Vespers may now be restored to the canon of choral masterpieces."
~ Kah-Ming Ng, conductor and keyboardist for Charivari Agréable
