"Magdalen College, Oxford, played an important part in the revival of the celebration of Christmas and especially of carol singing."

"These days Oxford lends the laurel for Christmas carols to its sister university at Cambridge, and especially to King's College, whose Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols on Christmas Eve marks the beginning of Christmas for many households around the world, as it has for over 75 years. However, Oxford had a major part in the revival of the carol over 150 years ago - not in church, but where it originated in household and hall."
