From the time the large, round chorus kicks in on opening track "72 Hour Daze" you get this warm, fuzzy feeling from these guys and this album. Granted, it could be because of the great production work on the album. It could be because of the great arranging by group members like Samrat Chakrabarti ("A Thousand Miles," "Your Smiling Face" and "Thriller," to name just a few), Mark Manley (BOCA-selected "Fields of Gold"), Eric Fosbury ("72 Hour Daze" and Queen epic "Bohemian Rhapsody") and founder Townsend Belisle ("On and On" and "L-Y"). Or it could be the fact that these guys really know how to sing! Of course, performing together almost every day for about 3 months does tend to solidify your ensemble sound, and it is very obvious that this group has it down pat. Many of these guys are from well-established college groups from around the country, so they're full of experience and energy. The repertoire on the disc ranges from modern pop ("A Thousand Miles," "Walking Away") to older pop (JamesTaylor's "Your Smiling Face," Sinatra's "Fly Me to the Moon," "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay," "I Feel Good") to a cappella classics like The Blenders' arrangement of Christopher Cross' "Sailing." Five of the 15 tracks were recorded live during the 2002 summer season, and although these are less polished than the studio tracks, it does show that these guys can give a great live show too. If you are in the Cape Cod area of Massachusetts during the summer, you've got to check out one of Hyannis Sound's shows. If you can't get to Massachusetts in the summer, then pick up this album for a long-distance, year-round harmony fix. (60:25 2003)
