Hyannis Sound Aged 10 Years (Fulfill)
Be the first to review this product
This reprint of their 1994 debut album "Live, All Natural A Cappella" celebrates the ten-year anniversary of The Hyannis Sound, formed by ten college guys in hopes to live the a cappella dream: to sing and get paid for it! They (and the 35 subsequent members over the last ten years) have sung around Cape Cod, Massachusetts at weekly gigs, parties, special performances - you name it. Their repertoire spans the years and styles, with 70's "Sister Goldenhair" side-by-side with Gershwin's "Summertime," the Fairfield Four's "Roll, Jordan, Roll," Robert Shaw's arrangement of "Drunken Sailor" and Manhattan Transfer's arrangement of "How High the Moon." Their sound is a big, warm one when needed, though sometimes rushed on the pop pieces. Early vocal percussion work on Seal's "Crazy" gives a hint to the direction that the group (and many others) would head in future years. Pop favorites "Freeze Frame" and "Oh What a Night" are great covers, full of energy only the young and hungry can deliver. The recording quality is good, though not studio-slick, as all performances were recorded live. All in all, this is a great testimony to something that would become a tradition unto itself.
