The 18th Annual 2002 'Sweeps Finals ended with California's genre-crossing Perfect Gentlemen taking top honors. This disc features two of the tunes they performed to win the event ("Patty Cake" and "Blue Skies"), as well as performances by seven of the other groups that were in the show. Phillipino trio III of a Kind give us strong, soulful performances with "Man in the Mirror" and beautiful folk/contemporary "Anak" in their native tongue. Internationally renowned audience favorites Autri (from Tbilisi, Georgia) wow us with their powerful vocal arrangements in rousing "Krimanchuli" and haunting, Onomatopoeic "Tale of War" (also judged as the Best Original Song of the contest). Denver's contemporary male sextet Eclipse open the disc with original "Look My Way" and give traditional "Danny Boy" a somewhat updated treatment. Boston's male vocal band Groove also makes a respectable appearance with their cover alt-pop "Anna Begins" and a funky, clever cover of "I Feel Good." Chapter 6, the 2001 International College A Cappella champs show their stuff on the challenging "Bohemian Rhapsody." Idaho's Standards close the album with the beautiful "Prayer of the Children." It should be noted that these are live performances, and may not be the individual performers' best takes, but the album is well-produced and gives us a taste of what these groups can do in concert quite nicely.
