What do you get when you pair a bunch of fictional but talented ex-fast food workers with the irreverent humor and melodic instincts of Sean Altman? Minimum Wage's award-winning show "Music, Mayhem and Hamburgerology 101." This CD takes music from the theatrical production, which takes the form of an instructional session with the ever-geeky Burgerboys, extolling the virtues of hamburgers, their history and the joy of serving them. Much of the music is written by Altman (who shares production credits along with Rockapella's Jeff Thacher), along with group members Charlie & Jeff LaGreca and Rob Utesch.

The musical styles here range from surf-pop ("Minimum Wage Theme") to spoofs of kiddie-show themes ("Kooky the Happy Burger Klown" - who is anything BUT happy), funky, vocal-percussion tinged rap grooves (hilarious "G-R-I-Double-L"), sophomoric-humor-as-classic-cowboy-song ("The Last Cowboy Song" all about wedgies), and a suspiciously Rockapella-like empowerment anthem ("Balls"). The one serious, non-humorous song on the album is sweet "All These Dreams" which shows that these burgerboys (and girls) can sing! The last song, musical montage "The 17th Annual Harmony Honeysuckle Shootout Finale" is reminiscent of The Beastie Boys and has to be heard to be believed. This is a really fun CD for the not-easily-offended. If you get the chance, go see the show - it's won a Bistro Award for Outstanding Musical Comedy Act - in New York City.
