When you hear "(Pride) In the Name of Love" by Germantown Friends School Double Treble, you may wonder if it's a mixed college group. By the end of the CD you'll see that secondary schools are quickly catching up with their college equivalents. As usual, there are excellent traditional choral pieces, like Lauridsen's new standard "O Magnum Mysterium," performed here by the David Lipscomb (TN) Concert Chorus. Vocal jazz is also well represented - The Real Group's "A Cappella in Acapulco" is ably performed by the Folsom (CA) Jazz Choir. The contemporary groups continue to progress by leaps and bounds - check out "Jack and Diane" by Nine from Glenview, IL. There are even several East European pices, notably "Hoj Hura Hoj" by Appleton, (WI) North's Varsity Women's Choir - just spine-tingling! The last of 21 tracks even features a beatboxing battle by two high school beatboxers!
