This former Trinovox member steps out on his own on his first solo effort since leaving the group. "Incipit" continues the tradition established with Trinovox of integrating pop, jazz, classical and avant-garde styles into the a cappella medium. All of the parts on this album - vocals (which are all in Italian) and vocal percussion - is ALL Julian Spizz, or "Spizzman," as he likes to be called when he's going solo like this. This is a funky album - both in grooves and song styles. Opening track "La Differenza" is a neat little calypso number; "La Pietá Rhythm Version" has a phat groove that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. "L'infinito" is a slow, gothic-flavored lamentation; "Mobile Ordingno" is reminiscent of a Nine Inch Nails tune; Spizz has fun with odd tone colors too, with pieces like "La Petite Promenade Du Poète" and strangely film noir-like "Le Altezze." All in all, this is a very creative album by a very talented musician. (47:26 2004)
