This 2004 holiday release by Denmark's pop a cappella hotties Basix is a healthy dose of fluffy holiday songs, featuring traditional Danish holiday music like beautiful "Dejlig er Jorden" and "Det er Hvidt Herude," and modern Christmas fare. Originals include sweet "Candlesong," "Christmastime," which uses quotes from Clement C. Moore's famous 'A Visit from St. Nicholas,' "Soft, Soft Present" and "Christmas Bonus." The covers range from traditional carols like "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" done with a groovy, funky 21st century sound; Joni Mitchell's "River," a reggae-fied "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," and George Michael's now de rigeur holiday favorite "Last Christmas." The album was co-produced by a cappella wunderkind Bill Hare, with all arrangements done by the group members. For a little taste of Scandinavian holiday sweets, this one can't be beat!
