This reviewer has found another reason to love the Swiss (besides their awesome cheese, schnappes and chocolate, that is...)!

"Öppis runds" means 'something round' in Swiss German (as explained in the CD's liner notes), and that description is definitely applicable to this group's smooth, full sound. With beautiful female leads by Yvonne Baumer and Susann Rieben and sweet male counterparts Markus Kocher, Marc Jenni and Aadhar Zimmerman, they create a sound that is both intelligent and cuddly, like a nice sherpa throw.

The songs on their debut CD are a great cross-section of their repertoire, spanning genres from hip-hop (groovy opener "Nelly's Dilemma") to jazz (check out their killer cover of the Real Group's "A Cappella in Acapulco" and Vox One/Yumiko Matsuoka's "Over the Rainbow"), Italian pop (Neri Per Caso-ish "L'anno che varra"), contemporary Swiss folk songs (lovely "Schönster Abestärn"), African gospel, a la Ladysmith Black Mambazo (but in German - I think), even 70s arena rock (a very competent cover of Supertramp's "Logical Song" with vocal percussion is very nice) - these guys can do it all! The little hidden techno (tekkno) bits between some songs are a little jarring if you're not expecting them, but pretty well-done. This is a well-"rounded" (pardon the pun) album that will appeal to vocal harmony lovers everywhere.
