Libana Out of this World
Be the first to review this product
From the group's web site: "Hailed as troubadours of peace, Libana sweeps listeners into a compelling global journey. Lyrical renderings of love, lamentation, vision and celebration imbue "Out of This World" with the exuberance, depth and grace for which Libana is internationally renowned. Timeless rhythms, lyrics and melodies reach across history and the planet, conjuring a powerful musical alchemy that gives passionate expression to the interconnectedness of spirit, nature and humanity. This is the world's story, a story told through the artistry of women, vividly conveyed by the women of Libana."
Our take: The women of Libana have been singing together for pretty near a quarter-century now. They know what they're doing, and have a real love for the ethnic music that they sing, as well as each other. Both of those qualities are totally inherent in their performances on this album, taken from four concerts in four different intimate Boston church venues. From the rhythmic sounds of African chants to beautiful Georgian story-songs accompanied by lute, to strident but gorgeous Balkan tunes, it's all here. The Hungarian gypsy song "Tendl Pal," with its traditional cimbalom, kontra and string bass accompaniment leads you to a field, dancing around a campfire (in your mind, of course). There is too much good stuff on this album to talk about here. This reviewer is seriously regretting taking this long to really appreciate this album. If you're looking for a truly worldly musical experience, this is it. (71:05 2005)
