We discovered this gem, recorded a decade ago by this Cambridge, Massachusetts-based progressive women's ensemble. Its beauty grows from the deceptively simple form of the round, in which purely sung, simple melodies wrap on each other in intricate sound weaves, then unwrap leaving the simple melody as a conclusion. The songs are drawn from many folk traditions: Native American, African, Israeli, European, going back to Renaissance time and spanning to contemporary folk sources. Favorites include "Fly, Fly, Fly" and German "Lachen." Stringed instruments or recorders are used on four of the 22 songs, with drums used on another two. (53:49 1986)
