This live album by Netherland quintet Montezuma's Revenge was recorded over two concerts in a cozy theatre in Woerden, according to the liner notes. But because these guys have a long history of performing together, and have lots of experience under their belts, the album doesn't succumb to any of those typical "live album" maladies - no out-of-tune moments, no lack of energy, no balance issues, no huge air-sucking breaths that jump off the celluloid. They do involve the audience on "Angels," (having them sing a background part that sets up the song) which is part of the fun of doing a live performance in the first place. It's nice to hear that experience recorded here.

They cover tunes by (among others) Prince ("Sign O'the Times"), Ricky Martin ("La Vida Loca"), Alicia Keys ("If I Ain't Got You"), Christine Aguilera (!) (their arrangement of "Beautiful" is downright haunting - love the reverb!), Jackson 5 ("I Want You Back") and a sweet rendition of Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle" to round out the album. All sounds are vocally produced. If you're looking for a strong, confident male contemporary sound, this is it. (44:21 2004)
