Tam 'Echo' Tam: A Cappella
Be the first to review this product
With Zap Mama having left their a cappella roots, this Belgian quartet is moving right in. The mixed group is inventive and global in their musical vision, drawing from pop, jazz, African roots music and French chanson in cooking this potent a cappella stew. Sung in French and English, the largely original songs come in a wide array of styles, from African bop ("le Ruisseau") to jazz swing("la Fuite de Jazz") to samba ("What Does it Mean?") to Caribbean ("The Island of My Love")to straight pop ("En pensant a Bill"). While the group is less "world" and "experimental" than Zap Mama, they nonetheless create a fresh, original, lively, decidedly upbeat sound. They occasionally use acoustic percussion (as on Afrobop "Koyoka") and sound effects, but the vocal palette of these artists is so large even purists won't mind. Highly recommended! (43:19 1997)
