For anyone looking for a taste of music indigenous to this region of the world, this is a great resource. Published by Northern Harmony Publishing, which has a long-standing history of celebrating and proliferating music from around the world, this songbook is not simply a transcription of Georgian folk songs. It is an introduction to a musically rich area that not many people are familiar with. In fact, most Georgian polyphony dates back to pre-Christian times. The introduction gives some great background information on the region and its music. The publishers also note that while a transcription does help, Georgian folk music is primarily an oral tradition and is most authentically learned by ear. That's where the companion CD (coming soon) is a great help in learning how to authentically reproduce these songs and do them justice. They even includA Collection of Folk and Sacred Music from the Republic of Georgia
