What a treat! This fabulous quintet (yes, quintet) was big in the 1940's during the golden age of gospel a cappella. They were reunited in 1980 after decades apart, and on this 1992 recording show they still have their chops. Grounded by basso profundo and musical director Isaac Freeman, they sing with harmony and rhythm embodying the best of classic gospel. All a cappella, the recording peaks on "Roll Jordan Roll," sung with The Nashville Bluegrass Band in one of the most memorable gospel performances we've heard. (38:05 1992)
