Rollin Rachele: Sound Reflections (CD)
Overtone singing came to the West from Tuva in Asia, but Rollin Rachele has clearly mastered this obscure vocal art form. On this CD he displays his mastery, doing things with one voice you've never heard before! There are only five unnamed tracks, but each is a lengthy musing on a particular overtone approach. The first is very meditative. Track 2 includes a warbling technique that's astonishing to hear. Track 3 features parts with the drone moving in melodic counterpoint to the whistling overtone. Track 4 has amazing dexterity in the fluttering of the overtone, while Track 5 is colored by emotional intensity. Truly on overtone singing tour de force! (45:26 1996)
