From the opening strains of this album, vocal jazz aficionados will findthemselves thinking "female Hi-Lo's!" The King Sisters were contemporariesof the Hi-Lo's, and their vocal styling and repertoire share much incommon with that legendary group. They were indeed a group of sisters(from a large Mormon family) who began singing on radio in the early '30sand continued their professional music careers through the mid 1960s. Thisrecording includes some great tunes recorded between 1956 and 1959: "ButBeautiful," "What's New," "How Long Has This Been Going On," "Deep Purple"and more. While all the vocals have accompaniment, lovers of vocal jazzwill find much to enjoy on this fine collection. (63:53 1999)
