Manhattan Transfer: Swing
Be the first to review this product
This 1997 release is sure to please all Manhattan Transfer fans. The foot-stomping close harmony jazz performances lie in the sweet spot of what these talented performers do best. Five ofthe tunes feature vocalese lyrics (words set to transcribed instrumental improvisations) by Jon Hendricks: "Stomp of King Porter," "Sing Moten's Swing," "DownSouth Camp Meetin'" and more. Other highlights include a harmonic rendition of Ella Fitzgerald's "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," and "Clouds," which features a vocal arrangement by Gene Puerling, lyrics by Hendricks and a violin solo by Stephane Grappelli. No a cappella, but lots of great close vocal harmony. (44:49 1997)
