This collaboration between the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and The Manhattan Transfer is everything one might expect when two of the world's top musical organizations combine forces to produce an anthology of the Swing Era. Most of the tracks are instrumental and all of the vocal tracks are accompanied. The Pops Orchestra provides a huge, but never lumbering, sound when playing alone. When accompanying The Manhattan Transfer or soloists they manage to pull back nicely and provide a perfect balance. "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie," featuring Manhattan Transfer has definitely "Got Swing!" John Pizzarelli's smooth and super cool vocals are the highlight of "Straighten Up and Fly Right". "Clouds," adapted from Nuages, has some rhythmically interesting vocals including a section of vocalese. Though this is not an a cappella CD, it is a must have for jazz loverManhattan Transfer: Got Swing! With the Cincinnati Pops (CD)
