Good Company is a seven-member vocal group sponsored by The Music Society at the Midland Center for the Arts in Midland, Michigan. Their repertoire covers classical to jazz with an emphasis on contemporary vocal harmonies and blends. Good Company is under the direction of Jim Hohmeyer. They have performed with Steve Zegree's Jazz Quartet from Western Michigan University. They have opened for the well-known Michigan Comedy Ensemble "Three Men and a Tenor", Kirby Shaw's vocal group Just 4 Kicks, the fabulous "Four Freshmen" and for Doc Severinson and his big band on the MCFTA stage."

No doubt, these singers have got great jazz chops. Their tuning is on, their inflections are totally appropriate to the style, and their energy practically jumps out of your speakers (perhaps the fact that this is a live album helps that aspect). But the fact that this is a live album makes it even MORE admirable - this stuff is really good, folks. If you're a fan of The Swingle Singers, The Real Group, Four Freshmen or Manhattan Transfer, this one's for you. Standouts include an absolutely beautiful "When I Fall in Love," a combined accompanied/a cappella version of Anders Edenroth's arrangement of "It Don't Mean a Thing if It Ain't Got That Swing," and opening track "Sing, Sing, Sing." They try and mix the jazz repertoire up with a little pop on "Shop Around," but it's clear their favorite place to be is in the middle of a good ol' jazz standard. A little less than half of the tracks are a cappella (five out of 11) - the others are accompanied by a tight jazz band. But for a healthy dose of good jazz vocalizing, you can't go wrong - hey, you're in "Good Company"! (35:03 2005)
