As we discover more historic releases, it's become more apparent that vocal harmony has gone through cycles of tremendous popularity. This wonderful collection of recordings from the 1920s and 1930s (with a few from the early 1940s) includes groups from both America and Europe, and it's clear that similar musical styles had spread on both sides of the pond. Among the highlights: "Breezin' Along With The Breeze" by The Revelers, who inspired The Comedian Harmonists (who also appear, in historical context, with "Aug Wiederseh'n, My Dear"), the kitschy "voicetrumental" warmup on "The Girl In The Green Hat;" "Cuban Tango" sung in Czech by The Viennese Seven Singing Sisters, and the version of "Java Jive" that inspired Manhattan Transfer, sung by The Ink Spots. Everything old is new again!
