Stouxingers: Everything Ain't Everything (CD)

Wow. How about, wow times 8? Germany's Stouxingers have a lot going for them, starting with eight talented singers (4 men, 4 women), several of whom are simply spectacular, soulful soloists. Their arrangements are as sophisticated and imaginative as you'd want - witness how The Beatles' "All My Loving" becomes a grooving jazz romp as just exhibit one. The production is just enough to give their voices and arrangements justice, not interfering or asserting itself in the mix. Plus, the group has great musical taste in songs - smoky "Harlem Nocturne," "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" with dense eight-part harmony (wow!), Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" that really funks out. Imagine an eight-voice Real Group that can get their funk on and you've got Stouxingers - really fantastic! (34:27 2004)
