It's very hard to see The Real Group live these days, so the Video CD that comes as part of this incredible compilation package is more than welcome. But first, the audio CD: assembled originally for an international, and especially, Korean market, it leads off with a killer rendition of The Beatles' "Ticket To Ride," complete with a wailing vocal "guitar" solo. "Dancing Queen" is re-recorded, and yes, you'll want to dance! Live "Kristallen den fina" features a bit of hand-whistling, and the one tune not found on any other Real Group CD concludes this recording: "Song From The Snow," co-written by Anders Edenroth and Sung-Woo Cho. Gorgeous, yes, but what else would you expect? The Video CD is a simple one-camera look at 5-1/2 songs ("Big Bad World" terminates inexplicably after a little over a minute). It's not fancy, the lighting and sound leave lots to be desired, but at this price - a "free bonus" - what would you expect? It is very endearing to see the whistle solo that kicks off "No More Blues," and how they emulate kids' voices on the never-before-recorded track we're calling "Momma Can I Have That Big Elephant Over There." And while their singing is amazing, it's somehow humanizing to see the VCD end with a near train-wreck conclusion of "Lift Me Up." One other note: on my computer, the 2.8:1 aspect ratio spread them wider than it should have been, so they look uncharacteristically chunky. Nonetheless, we treasure these "Real Group Home Videos" and think you will too! (45:57 2003)
