Recorded at Sprague Hall at Yale University, New Haven, CT; Spring 1998-Autumn 2000 (From the liner notes:) "S.L.O.T. (Seems Like Old Times) is a collection of ancient Whiffenpoofs, who can't stop singing.
At the end of World War II, many surviving Whiffs returned, bringing with them a variety of songs and great joi de vivre. Many of the songs were recorded; but others were not and may soon be forgotten. Most of the old arrangements reside in Bill Oler's songbooks, compiled in the '40s, which have been of unvaluable help.
With a few exceptions, this CD records the old songs that were enjoyed in the late '40s (and earlier), and have not (so far as we know) been recorded by any Whiff group. Some were sung by the Silver Dollar Quartet [snip], some by the distinguished '42 group and some were arranged for and sung by the '48 Whiffs, the last group not to have made a recording.
[snip] Annual reunions in New Haven have been an unexpected pleasure, singing for the reuning classes and in concert in Woolsey Hall Rotunda for increasing crowds of alumni, young and old. Due to the War, we find ourselves in various classes, happily mixed, and have found in SLOT an opportunity to relive those happy, golden, bygone days. Until we can't reach those high notes any more, we now have an excuse for returning to New Haven every year when the moss on Dwight turns green again..." (71:31 2005)
