Pacific Chorale: Nocturne
Be the first to review this product
Pacific Chorale: Nocturne This 2000 release by the esteemed Pacific Chorale, under the baton of John Alexander, presents repertoire from 20th Century composers. With texts by Octavio Paz (the exquisite tone poem "Cloudburst" and introspective "Water Night"), Samuel Barber ("To be Sung on Water") and Ray Bradbury ("This Time of Kites," music by conductor Alexander), this large choral ensemble explores many different sonorities in the course of the album - dark and light, despair and hope. Persichetti's "Mass" from 1961 is traditional only in the language it uses, the rest is all fine modern choral writing. (66:23 2000)
Song List: There Will Be Rest (F.Ticheli) Nocturne (A.Hailstork) The Cloths of Heaven (A.Hailstork) To Be Sung on the Water (Samuel Barber) Water Night (Eric Whitacre) Cloudburst (Eric Whitacre) Mass (V.Persichetti): Kyrie Gloria Credo Sanctus Agnus Dei This Time of Kites (J.Alexander): I. Prelude II. The Day Burns Bright III. Epilogue
