Yale Whiffenpoofs: 1980: On Broadway 25th Anniversary
Be the first to review this product
As the disco era was giving way to the Reagan years, fourteen Yale men spent their senior year singing in the long tradition of the Yale Whiffenpoofs. Several would go on to be professional musicians (Richard Slade, Johnson Flucker), others kept performing music on the side (Joe Teig, Peter Evans, Alex Tang), one is now a top-selling author (Joseph Finder), and one went on to found a cappella catalogs, including this one (Don Gooding). For their 25th class reunion in 2005 they took their LP into the digital age, adding extra tracks both from the studio and from live performances. The original recording includes Yalie Charles Ives' unusual ode to his alma mater, "The Boys In Blue" complete with the bizarre "cloud chords" that presage his later musical idiosyncrasy, The additional live tracks include broken French introductions from the group's European tour plus the requisite Harvard jokes. All in all, the recording well represents the timeless musical elegance that is the Whiffenpoofs.(2005) Song List Eli's Comin' When Sunny Gets Blue Trickle, Trickle On Broadway Black Is The Color Hurry Sundown Too Darn Hot Java Jive For All We Know Song of Long Ago Time After Time Slap That Bass The Boys in Blue Twisted Every Time We Say Goodbye Little Pony Aj lúcka lúcka Strike Up The Band Mavourneen My Kind of Girl Minnie the Mermaid When My Sugar Walks Down the Street Haven't We Met Savin' Ourselves for Yale Maggie Blues The Sunshine Girl Daddy is a Yale Man McNamara's Band The Whiffenpoof Song
