This early NLC recording brings together 18 anthems (1/3 accompanied) from across the rich European sacred music tradition. They open with Martin Shaw's accessible work for double chorus, "Sing We Merrily." Other pieces in English include Schumann's dramatic "How Great Are Thy Wonders" and Kalinnikof's dark "O Lamb Of God." There are three pieces in German, including Schein's "Die Mit Tränen Säen," as well as several in Latin. Sacred choral music at its best! (61:27 1993)
