This wonderful recording includes many memorable cuts, lovingly described in Leonard Feather's liner notes. The title tune is a romping a cappella Bobby McFerrin tune, arranged byMichele Weir and featuring future Bob Joe Finetti on a scat solo. The vocals on accompanied "Johnny One Note" were arranged by Gene Puerling for the group. "Quiet Night ofQuiet Stars" opens with an imaginative vocal experimentation, and returns for a tricky a cappella interlude after the rhythm section does its thing. "Waltz For Debbie" is a little a cappella gem, and the recording finishes with Clare Fischer's challenging "The Quiet Side," which Phil Mattson called "one of the most artistic vocal works of the 20th Century." The wordless piece opens with an a cappella harmonic adventure before therhythm section comes in. In short, for vocal jazz fans there's something for everyone! (34:43 1996)
