Vocal jazz legend Phil Mattson organized The PM Singers from students at Gonzaga University who also became a part of his brief-lived The Phil Mattson School in the early 1980s. The primary inspiration for the group was Gene Puerling's Singers Unlimited and the Hi-Lo's, and this impressive ensemble reached the high standards for blend and precision set by their forbears. Most of these great songs are accompanied ("Body and Soul," "New York Afternoon" and more). Two of the nine are a cappella gems, however: "I Hear Music," inspired by Bobby McFerrin's rendition, and Mattson's oft-copied, luscious arrangement of "I'll Be Seeing You." The PM Singers LP's (the first sighting of future Bob Joe Finetti) have been discontinued for years, and we're delighted they've been reissued!. (31:25 1996)
