Peckham, Anne: The Contemporary Singer (Book)
Be the first to review this product
Anne Peckham has been an associate professor in the Voice Department at Berklee College of Music since 1987, where she has developed a curriculum called "Elements of Vocal Technique" which is required of all vocal students. This book/CD is based on that curriculum. It starts basic, with a review of essential issues such as posture, the "four steps of effective breathing," a discussion of the larynx and "the resonators" in order for you to be able to "discover your resonance." It moves on to discuss vocal registers, diction (vowels, dipthongs, triphthongs, and three kinds of attacks), and the concept of practicing - warm-up, focus on song study and cool down. The CD can be used without (or with) the book. It begins with warm-ups for all voices, then has "Level One" and "Advanced" workouts both for low and high voices. Then there are more than 30 exercise to stretch everything from blending to articulation to vocal flexibility and control. Extremely useful, especially for those trying to improve their jazz/pop solo abilities. (164 pp. plus index, 2000)
