Steve Prosser is the Chair of the Ear Training Department at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he has taught since 1979. This book can be used by students or teachers, and includes a brief (22 pages) discussion of essential tools for improving your sense of rhythm and pitch: conducting patterns (to orient yourself in the meter), movable-do solfège, melodic studies, and "visualization-improvisation." The goal of this book is to help musicians gain a "musical mind" that is "a competent, secure, and flexible instrument in and of itself." The bulk of the book consists of exercises, organized into ten "workshops," each of which exercise the student's competence in the essential skills of ear training. (137 pp. 2000)

"Apparently academics use the term "ear training" for the entire set of skills associated with sight reading music. One of those skills is ear training but it takes up less than a quarter of the text. If you are specifically interested in ear training drills and exercises you will be disappointed with this book."
