This recording is sheer fun - a snapshot of the mid-1990s musical and comedic creativity that emerged from Big Chicken (on 11 songs), and its leading quartet FRED (on three songs). It contains some of the loveliest traditional songs ("Old Folks At Home," "I Love You Truly," "You Are My Sunshine") well sung and guileless, and some of the funniest early parodies by the quartet, which earned the '99 International Championship. Big Chicken, now also aperennial medalist, currently sings some of these songs better than it did in '96. Little matter - collectors will appreciate owning the chorus's complete '95 Miami International Contest set, and everybody will smile and admire arranger/director Clay Hine's inventive charts. Bandstand, the quartet precursor to Riptide, is admirable on two selections and one with the chorus. Don't miss this recording - it's one of the most entertaining listens in the catalog!
