Don't let the title of this book fool you - these are not arrangements that will stand up on the contest stage - nor were they meant to be. The 83 songs in this collection are from all different styles - folk songs, college songs, western songs, spirituals - but are all scored to be sung by a male or mixed quartet or chorus. Guitar frames have been added to the songs that might benefit from some simple accompaniment. But these are not regulation "barbershop" arrangements in a strict sense at all. They may have been heard or sung in barbershops in the early-to-mid 20th century, but these songs are not meant to win any contests, just to let people have fun singing together. Most of the songs are short (one page in length), all are scored SATB.
