This octavo-sized collection of 16 Jester Hairston spirituals is scored for 4-6 part mixed choir and piano (except one, "Sandy Anna" which is TTBB). Although not a cappella, it gives a great insight into Hairston's unique style, incorporating Creole influences (like "Aurore Pradère") with traditional Negro spiritual styles (like "Free at Last!") to create something all his own. Arrangement help was also lent by Harry Robert Wilson.
