As the title implies, this CD contains a collection of some of the best known and most loved hymns. As one might expect, all of the tracks are (at least partially) accompanied by organ or piano. The National Lutheran Choir performs these hymns with great sensitivity and warmth. "Precious Lord", written by Thomas A. Dorsey after the loss of his wife and son, is quite touching. "A Mighty Fortress" and "Beautiful Savior" are grand and majestic. "Abide With Me" is comforting both musically and in the message it projects. (2005 72:10)
