Princeton Singers, The Old, New Borrowed Blues (CD)

Since Dr. Steven Sametz became artistic director of The Princeton Singers, he has instilled in this 18-voice ensemble the profound musicality that has enabled him to compose and arrange commissioned works for the likes of The Dale Warland Singers, the King of Thailand and Chanticleer. In fact, Chanticleer joins as guest artist with the Singers to premiere haunting "Dudaryku - A Village Scene" on this recording of mostly world music, as seen through the lens of a "legit" composer and arranger. Other Sametz creations included here are Bosnian "Ne Sedi, Djemo," Asian "Ngam Sang Duan" and "La Villanella" which even has yodelers! For a surprising change, the CD includes jazzy "Do I Love You/We Are In Love" - very cool! - and "Blue Skies." (51:01 2002) Song List: Folksongs From Around the World: Ne Sedi, Djemo (Bosnian) Kas Tie Tadi (Latvian) Paidu Li Vwihdul Ja (Russian) Dudaryku - A Village Scene (Ukranian) -with Chanticleer, Guest Artists Ngam Sang Duan (Thai) La Villanella (Italian) Kein Feuer, Keine Kohle (German) American Standards: Do I Love You (Rodgers & Hammerstein) We Are in Love (Harry Connick, Jr.) Losing My Mind (Stephen Sondheim) Blue Skies (Irving Berlin) American Folk and Gospel: Shenandoah (American) Follow Jesus (Margaret Douroux) (2002 51:03)
