This collection of 35 madrigals gathers together some of England's "greatest hits" from the late 16th and 17th Centuries. The songs were written by seven notable composers: Morley ("Now is the Month of Maying"), Weelkes ("All At Once Well Met") Wilbye, Farmer ("Fair Phyllis")Farnaby, Kirbye, Pilkington and even a rare Byrd. These are artistically definitive, mostly a cappella performances. (73:33 1987)
