King's Singers, with Concordia: 1605 - Treason & Dischord (CD)
Be the first to review this product
Commemorating the quartercentary of the November 5th, 1605, exposure of the Gunpowder Plot, this CD consists of pieces from the works of five composers of that era, William Byrd's 4-part Mass being the central work. The liner notes contain a text by Deborah JG Mackay to further enhance the history told here. Co-starring on this CD with The King's Singers is Concordia, a group of six musicians who are knowledgeable and talented viol players, viols being important instruments of the 16th and 17th centuries. Take in "the atmosphere of change and hope in the Jacobean court," courtesy of these talented artists. Song List: George Whitehead's Almand (John Dowland) Kyrie from Mass for 4 voices (William Byrd) A Fancie (Byrd) Gloria from Mass for 4 voices (Byrd) Ardens est cor meum (Richard Dering) Civitas sancti tui (Byrd) Ave Maria gratia plena (Peter Philips) Credo from Mass for 4 voices (Byrd) Sir Henry Umpton's Funeral (Dowland) O Lord how joyful is the King (Thomas Weelkes) From Virgin's womb/Rejoice, rejoice (Byrd), M.
